My family has never really been in plums, as a people, we were more in the sickly sweetness of mango nectar or crunchy spicy Apple just mature. Of course, This may be because where I come from, there are not many places that sell plums.

Plums well not entirely true - dried, or as many people still call, prunes are sold everywhere at any time for pretty reasonable prices. And living in a place that houses a large number of Chinese, I also had my fair share of the dried, candied plums sold in small shops, plums, whose real taste significantly altered by the drying and ginger and salt. But as a young person, had never had the opportunity to actually bite a plum relatively cold, as I always thought that all fruits should be initially appreciated.

To be honest, not very good with my first experience of plum were associated with constipation - I've always had problems with you-know-what, my mother called me a large bag of prunes and we stayed until midnight to watch old movies and talk about the past. Prunes, if your reputation or the circumstances in I ate, I felt much larger than it really was. And I knew it was not the result of what is supposed to make a person feel.

Fresh fruit, so I can say is the closest thing to a child would have its first "sweet" experience. Therefore, I always thought that the fruit must invoke a sense of youth, freedom and simple joy. The sensation of breaking the juice in the mouth, preferably at the drip tip of the chin, has a way of making one feel alive wild and breathless through carelessness. To bring a fruit that experience - at least not have that kind of initial experience with a fruit - is a bit more of a tragedy.

Saturday Thus, a monumental when I was fresh out of college and still mooching off my mother for everything imaginable for the survival of the suburbs, I traveled section of fruit in the hope of finding fresh plums. No words can describe what I felt when I learned that this weekend, offered a special on plums - sharp decline in prices for plums imported from California. Gone are the courts of the sample, but I went straight to the beautiful purple fruit and bought eight of them using what remains of my allowance.

I very sensitive, of course, that these plums will never be able to measure the direct consumption of prunes to be harvested. But I understand that I will probably move to another country if I want to be able to do that if I refuse to complain. So instead, I locked myself in my room to Lisa Loeb, and while singing the words "Bring me wild plums, wild plums and agrimony" I close my eyes and took a huge swig of plum in my hand.

No words can adequately describe how to bite into the felt. It was firm, the feeling that somewhere against his teeth like a apple or a grape. But at the same time, it was like biting into an apple or a grape - The skin of the apple, not as easily as the plum and the grape skin is too thin to be like this wonderful fruit. The interior of the fruit is also quite unique in my experience, no teeth and tongue: it was strong, but exquisite, and the flavor is a perfect blend spicy sweetness that I felt much better than the guy I like to enjoy an apple.

And, as if a strange door that opened in my mind, I remembered an old poem that was read to us once in class by a favorite teacher. This is a brilliant poet William Carlos Williams called, I think, and apologized - rather hypocritical - About plum bite your partner, friend, wife or girlfriend had been saving for breakfast lunch. And then I thought maybe he befriended William Carlos Williams in these circumstances.

I took another bite. And then another, then another. Finally, completed eight of plums and juice staining the perimeter of the mouth, painting parts of their lines of skin between the teeth. And I felt for the first time since I graduated, as if I was alive.

From my first bite in a fresh plum, I came to really love the plums in all its incarnations - Yes, even cut and dried. Maybe because I got to know the fruit as it was intended to be, with little interference of mankind. Whatever the reason, eating plums became a ritual for me - the day when I am weak, I like, very selfish, lock myself in a room, close my eyes and bite with any expectation of hunger.

Ripe $12.98 One of best developments within contemporary bluegrass has been the inclusion of more women, whether they have led their own bands like Alison Krauss or mixed it up with musicians of the opposite sex like the Dixie Bee-Liners. For one, this inclusion means more variety in lead vocal styles, but just as important, it allows for a great deal of breadth and depth in harmony. Both Brandi Hart's lead voice and Rachel Renee Johnson's harmony, together with the voice of Buddy Woodward, provide the Dixie Bee-Liners with a distinctive vocal style with lots of elasticity. The opener, "Down the Crooked Road," namechecks bluegrass greats and offers the group's contemporary rendition of the genre; "The Bugs in the Basement," on the other hand, might be closer to contemporary folk as exemplified by the Be Good Tanyas and others. The real roots lover might complain that the group lacks the grit of either the bluegrass greats it references, or the edgy style of the Be Good Tanyas. And while this complaint has some validity, the simple production and finely recorded acoustic sound of Ripe never sounds like it's been tweaked for radio. The Dixie Bee-Liners mix of folk and bluegrass, and the variety of the vocal arrangements within both styles, make Ripe much more interesting than the average contemporary bluegrass band fronted by a twangy, country-flavored male. ~ Ronnie D. Ripe $16.98 Ben Lee settled into a bit of a groove on his 2005 album, Awake Is the New Sleep -- or, rather, he matured, mellowing into a tuneful, tongue-in-cheek singer/songwriter, an Evan Dando who was warm, fuzzy, friendly, and lacking a considerable history of substance abuse. Of course, our Ben has never been dangerous -- he's always been a precocious kid, and if his mild impishness has faded over the years, along with his onetime fondness for clattering punk, his boyish sense of humor still remains on Ripe, his 2007 follow-up to Awake. Sometimes that humor is a bit too much -- despite its naggingly catchy hook, "What Would Jay-Z Do?" feels like a joke passed along in a high-school library -- but even if he occasionally overplays his hand, it sure is hard to dislike Lee. This is a guy who laments "Sex Without Love" (to a pounding new wave disco beat, no less!), sings about "American Television" without a trace of condescension, and updates the lilting '50s doo wop beat on "Birds and Bees," a charming duet with Mandy Moore. Lee has a warm cheerfulness that's thoroughly ingratiating, and he has the tunes to match. While none of these songs stands up and calls attention to itself -- neither does Lee, for that matter -- the songs are solidly constructed, are charming upon the first listen, and grow stronger on repeated plays, which are earned through the album's hazy, sweet nature.
