What "iPod generation" is the latest iPod model? (Non-iTouch) Ebay lists generation.?

I know that stores are called "iPod classic". I want to buy one on eBay, but the list by generation. I have no idea what that generation is supposed to be looking to get the latest and greatest. I do not want an iTouch, I just want a simple iPod shit I do not worry about breakage.
