Help with iTunes?

Ok I have a new iPod today because it's my b-day =] and I connected to my computer I clicked on iTunes and then it happened something right away and say, as you can start recording your iPod and hit him continuously and theres a thing where u can get if u had an Apple ID already, so you can still have or another account if you had money in it and stuff. But every time I do, signed in the AOL screen name. But as I push it I have a screen name so that its making me a new account .... but I've had in my other $ 18 (because my friend gave me a gift card for my B-day. Is there any way I can continue this without getting an account? Because I bought a new song and I tried to drag the songs on the iPod button and not have to go to ..... Sorry Im trying to explain as best I can =]
